plaster sculpture

This is my plaster sculpture. It kinda turned into a snowman while I was making it. I didn't really want it to end up like that but I kinda like it.

Art critique

This painting is titled "Mistaken Identity" by Ken Wong. In the painting you can see a little girl wearing a orange shirt. She is wearing a fish bowl on her head while several gold fish in the bowl swim around her. The gold fish are a bright orange with lapis blue eyes. However the girl herself seems to be less colorful. Her hair is a dark black and her lips are a crimson red.

Orange seems to be a continuous color in this painting. It is the color of the gold fish and the girls shirt. Aside from the orange, the blue eyes of the gold fish make them pop a little more than they would other wise. It seems that the bleak colors of the girl are ment to contrast the bright fish. This is emphases by the fish swimming in the girl's dark hair. The artist does the same effect by having the girl wearing a orange shirt while the reest of the background is completely black.

Theres alot of ways to interpret this painting because of how abstract it seems. My first thought was that it was symbolizing death since the girl's eyes are closed, meaning she could be asleep and she is with fish. Its also possible that the picture is about a depressed girl who wishes she could have happier thoughts or is surrounded by happy people. However, if you take the background into consideration its possible that she is in a world of darkness and she is the only positive thing there. It could even be that she is in a bad phase of her life and her memories are the only thing keeping her going.

I have a mixed opion about this painting. Its clearly well made with good craftman's ship and technique. However I'm not entirely sure what its meant to mean. With a setup like this the options are endless. It could be abount how the girl feel isolated, like she is trapped. Or it could represent how a person's memories will always seem better than whats going on currently in their life. Either way, I still like it. It uses a good combination of bright and dark colors and a interesting concept to make a true piece of art.
